A Parents Guide to our Pokémon Events
Share
Here at the Cavern we run a wide range of Pokémon events, which are very popular with children and teens! Check out our monthly event schedules for more info.
We are an official Pokémon Play! store, running TCG, VG and GO League events!
Whether you are new, or looking to try out other activities, keep reading to find out more about what we do here!
Pokémon Kids Club

Our Pokémon kids club runs most Sundays 12-2pm, and is for under 16s.
Kids club is free to attend, and is an ideal starting point for new children, or anyone just wanting to chill out and enjoy Pokémon!
From Pokémon battles, card trading/swapping, or just opening packs and some lunch - our Pokémon kids club is a great place to make new friends, or hang out as a family!
Free learn-to-play sessions are also available on request, but please contact us in advance book these in as we are often busy. There is no formal structure to kids club, we are a cafe venue, so grab yourself a drink and make yourselves comfortable!
Age Divisions and Pokémon Trainer IDs
Pokémon has different age divisions for tournaments.
Here is a breakdown of the different Pokémon age divisions for the 2026-27 season:
Junior Division (Born 2015 or later)
Senior Division (Born between 2011 and 2014)
Masters Division (Born 2010 or earlier)
To enter a Pokémon tournament, your child will need a Pokemon Trainer ID.
Parents can add a child onto their Pokémon Trainer Central account, and then opt them into the Pokémon Play program to get a Trainer ID number.
Pokémon Juniors Tournaments

Once your child knows how to play, and has their own battle deck, they will want to play against other children! Kids club is great for casual battles, but what comes next?
For younger children, taking the next step into tournament play can be a bit daunting, especially competing against older players in other age divisions.
Our juniors tournaments run once a month alongside kids club, and are free to enter. These events are ideal for building up confidence and experience with tournament play - in a low-stakes environment, and children get a free pack just for taking part!
Juniors tournaments are capped at 3 rounds, and are 30 minutes each, best of 1 format.
This is a bite-size version of our regular tournaments, which is ideal for newer players and keeps things short and sweet!
No need for pre-book or decklists, these are casual events!
We often give out promo cards and other goodies as prizes as well!
All-Age Tournaments

Most weeks after kids club we run an all-age tournament, starting 2:30pm.
These events are open to all age divisions: juniors, seniors and masters!
We do charge an entry fee for these events, as you get boosters for taking part, and we have a prize pool for each age division! Your entry fee covers the cost of the booster packs we give out to the players.
These are casual tournaments, often referred to as "locals" by players.
Rounds are 50 minutes, best of 3 format. Players are usually paired against opponents in the same age division where possible.
We schedule these to run after kids club, so families can stay and play if they want to have a go! No pre-book or decklists required for these tournaments, they are casual events and the aim is to have fun!
League Challenge Tournaments

The next stage up is our League Challenge tournaments. These run once a month and are part of the Pokémon Championship Series. This means you can earn championship points to qualify for World Championship events or earn towards an Ace Trainer Promo Card!
These tournaments are a great environment for players looking to test their skills and compete, while earning points and packs as prizes - for each age division: juniors, seniors and masters!
Decklists are required for these tournaments, and we recommend pre-booking tickets to avoid disappointment.
League Cup Tournaments

League cup tournaments run quarterly and are competitive events open to juniors, seniors and masters. These events are for players looking to take their competitive tournament play to the next level!
For TCG cups, the winner of each age division also gets an exclusive CHAMPION playmat in addition to our prize pool of booster packs and championship points to be earned.
These events attract competitive players from nearby cities to travel over and play, and we regularly sell out of tickets!
Pre-booked tickets and decklists are required for these events.
Pre-Release Events

Our pre-release events are another entry point into the Pokémon TCG and are very popular with casual players, collectors and families! At these events, you can open up the new booster packs ahead of the main release date and then play in a casual tournament with the new cards!
No need to bring a deck, everything you need to play comes in the Build and Battle box.
There is no top prizing for winners, everyone gets the same extra packs at the end!
Find out more about our pre-release events here.
Community Days

These special events are for local collectors to trade cards, open packs and have fun with friends! We run a kids session and an all-age session. These events are ticketed to avoid overcrowding, as they are always super popular!
Keep an eye on our social media and monthly event schedules to see when these are announced.
